Three days ago it was reported by CinemaBlend that Dwayne Johnson was considering doing a superhero movie.* In a tweet to fans talking to him about doing one, he said funny U say that. Now, thanks to another article on BleedingCool.com, we think we know why. An unnamed, unverified source said that Johnson was at a Hollywood party recently, had had perhaps a bit to drink, and was saying in a rather loud voice that he was looking at taking on the role of Lobo for Brad Peyton´s upcoming film of the DC comic by the same name.
Is this authentic? The reporter at Bleeding Cool didn’t seem to think so, but Cinemablend was willing to run with it anyway. And why not? The Rock is no stranger to science fiction and fantasy roles. He was the voice of Captain Charles T. Baker in Planet 51 , has played various other live action roles in everything from Tooth Fairy to Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and is even rumored to have been cast as Sinbad in Arabian Nights, due out in 2014 and currently in preproduction. He even featured on one episode of Star Trek: Voyager.
Could he do the role? Absolutely. Do we think it could happen? We don’t have any inside knowledge, but there aren’t many other people being discussed, if anyone. So sure. We think it could.
