Arthur Darvill as Rory the Roman

by Time Siren

C’mon my Whovian brethren, squee with me! Arthur Darvill aka Rory the Roman from Doctor Who, has just been confirmed this morning on the Gallifrey One website as being the next big guest to be at next year’s convention.

More current show Doctor Who guests will be announced as their schedules are confirmed for 2013, but so far the Gallifrey One guest list is the most impressive in their 24-year run. Just August 6th, other new series guests to sign on were announced as being Sir Derek Jacobi (the Master), Frances Barber (Madame Kovarian), Finn Jones (Santiago Jones From the Sarah Jane Adventures episode “Death of the Doctor”) and others.

The biggest excitement to New Who fans were also the announcement of the appearances of Neve McIntosh & Catrin Stewart who are greatly loved for their Silurian Madame Vastra and Jenny roles in “A Good Man Goes to War”. Such has been the clamor in fandom for this dynamic duo to have their own spinoff series that Steven Moffat himself addressed the pleas with an “I’d love to, but between Doctor Who and Sherlock, I just don’t have the time”.

Major guests of Gallifrey in the past have been many of the Doctors, including Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann. Supporting guests to these classic Doctors have included  current show runner Steven Moffat, Dalek voice & current Big Finish Producer Nicholas Briggs and beloved show guests way too numerous to mention here.

There are only two Doctor Who conventions run on an annual basis in the United States, the other being Chicago Tardis. Both shows are generously supported by appearances from British actors, writers, directors and the wonderful folks at Big Finish Productions.  They have been the best places to get your Doctor Who geek on in the past 20 years, especially if you are a cosplayer.

Gallifrey One is the premiere North American Doctor Who convention. It is held in Southern California at the LAX Marriott on President’s Day weekend – next year that being February 15th – 17th. For a complete list of guests for 2013, visit the Gallifrey One website. To keep up on breaking news of added guests as they happen, follow them on Twitter at @gallifreyone and you will find out as soon as we do!

We in the Closet think there will be an upsurge of “Rory the Roman” costumes and good looking guys running around with very large magnifying glasses next year at Gally. What do you think?
