We saw a live presentation by this team of performers at Stan Lee’s Komikaze last month. Thank goodness for large screen monitors, because of the sea of press reporters and photographers there witnessing the presentation pretty much blocked access for all the fans who where there to see it. (As an aside, is there some unwritten law that press photographers all have to be six foot three and pack in like sardines to qualify? Sheesh.)
It was all in preparation for the release of the first episode of Batgirl: Spoiled, a completely fan-created web series, done on a not-for-profit basis. It sets the stage for the rest of the series, and in about a month we’ll see the second episode that resolves this episode’s cliffhanger. They filmed both episodes together – and they’re looking around for another convention at which to screen the second episode. Their production budget is tiny, but they make every penny count. The star, Marisha Ray (@Marisha_Ray on Twitter), fought for days in a suit that doesn’t breathe much in some very hot weather.
The series will explore Batgirl’s life fighting for justice on the streets of Gotham City. We can’t imagine how they’re going to meet all their production costs, since they’re not allowed to actually sell it or anything related to it, but we wish them the best of luck.
