Disney/Lucasfilm has officially announced the cast for the upcoming brand new Star Wars installment, Episode VII. Taking place after Return of the Jedi, the new film will be directed by J.J. Abrams and will have most of the original cast returning, presumably in their original roles:

  • Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker)
  • Harrison Ford (Han Solo)
  • Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia)
  • Anthony Daniels (C3P0)
  • Kenny Baker (R2D2)
  • Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca)

We don’t know yet to what extent the original characters will feature in the film, but we will see them all again! Joining them is a brand new roster of actors:

  • John Boyega
  • Daisy Ridley
  • Adam Driver
  • Oscar Isaac
  • Andy Serkis
  • Domhnall Gleeson
  • Max von Sydow

There seems to be a mix of new and relatively unknown actors, and seasoned veterans like Max Von Sydow. This is similar to how the original Star Wars was cast in 1977.

Penning the screenplay is J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (who co-wrote many of George Lucas’s hit movies: The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Raiders of the Lost Ark). Returning for the score is good ol’ John Williams.

Since our Tolkien-based movies are ending, we’ll be looking forward to this new geek trilogy on December 18th, 2015.
