A British Avengers fan named Stratford Caldecott just got a great boost from the folks at Marvel Entertainment and his favorite film cast. Caldecott suffers from end-stage prostate cancer; his doctors estimate he has about 12 week to live. Marvel has arranged a private screening of The Winter Soldier in Caldecott’s home, as he was too weak to go to the theater and see it when it came out.
His daughter, Sofie, reached out to Avengers cast members through social media this week, asking them to post pictures for her father with the hashtag CapForStrat. “Dad is about to face the biggest challenge of his life. Death is the greatest, most frightening adventure of them all,” Sofie Caldecott wrote on her blog. “He is one of the good guys, worthy of superhero status himself. As Agent Coulson would say, it’s time to call for back up — let’s give him the sendoff he deserves.”
The response has been overwhelming. First Mark Ruffalo posted, then nearly all of the rest of the Marvel film universe joined in. Photos came from Robert Downey jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennett, Brett, Dalton, and Elizabeth Henstridge.
Sophie Caldecott’s responded on her blog, “As he goes through the pain and fear of the next few weeks/months he’ll be able to feel like he has his favourite superheroes and comic book characters arrayed around him to help him fight through the darkest moments.”
Thanks to Marvel Entertainment and your amazing group of actors for being awesome to a fan in need.
