Cryptic Studios’ Star Trek Online, originally released in 2010, is heading to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Star Trek Online is a MMORPG that takes place about 30 years after Star Trek: Nemesis. While it’s been years since its initial launch, we are finally going to see how well it performs on consoles. With this announcement, the developers explained the adjustments and upgrades to their engine and graphics, promising that the new overhaul will make the game “not only more immersive but, simply put, beautiful”. These visual improvements will come to PC later in the year too. With any PC game being released to console, the main concern that many players have is how well they can implement the controls. No fear, Cryptic Studios is ahead of the curve.
Stephen Ricossa, Executive Producer of Star Trek Online, stated
“We focused on getting the controls right before we began work in earnest on this project, because we knew the game had to be as tactical, fun and accessible as the PC game that preceded it.”
With the emphasis on streamlining the controls, they’re also focusing on making the many menus and HUD elements easier to comprehend, preventing it from being a hassle to play and fully enjoy, taking a lesson from Neverwinter that launched on Xbox One. There will also be plenty of content available for the console launch. This includes 11 seasons that features 130 episodes, a choice between three factions: Federation, Klingon, or Romulan. There will be a level cap of 60, and no subscription fee.
From customizing your captain with about 32 different species, visiting places such as Deep Space Nine or Earth Space Dock, and with the ability to choose your own Star Trek ship from hundreds available, the revamped Star Trek Online has some real potential.
You’ll be able to experience the Star Trek universe at your command this fall on Playstation 4 and Xbox One. No specific release date has yet been announced.
