Ads played during the Super Bowl are expensive. How expensive? Every 30 seconds costs somebody $5.5 million. Let that sink in.

Now have a look at this new three minute spot for Ghost in the Shell that will play this coming Sunday when the Atlanta Falcons play the New England Patriots at Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas this weekend (the Patriots are favored to win over the Falcons by 3 points). Three minutes run time makes this spot’s air time worth $33 million.

For one advertisement, Paramount is willing to spend more money than the gross national product of any one of the bottom 100 countries in the world.

Let that sink in.  That’s how much money they expect to make from this.

Oh, and here’s the spot itself. It’s just jaw-dropping, and Paramount has obviously saved the best stuff for this new television spot. Be sure to pause the SCIFI.radio music stream if you’re reading this on your desktop. Dueling soundtracks aren’t as much fun as it sounds.

Ghost in the Shell stars Scarlett Johansson, Michael Wincott and Michael Pitt, and is scheduled for release March 17, 2017. That’s less than five weeks from now. We can hardly wait, and there’s no way we’re missing this.
