It’s official.  Warner Brothers has confirmed that Patty Jenkins will be returning to direct the sequel to the immensely popular Wonder Woman movie, reported Variety.  If all goes well, Wonder Woman 2 will be released December 13, 2019, just in time for the Christmas/Hanukkah/Solstice holidays.

Wonder Woman was “the highest grossing live-action film directed by a woman in the world, ever,” according to Vanity Fair.  Many fans credit the movie’s success to the work of director Patty Jenkins, who after months of hopeful rumors, has been confirmed as the director of the widely anticipated sequel.

It’s no secret that actresses earn less than actors and and female directors earn less than male directors.  Time has discussed it.  So have Fortune  and Variety.  Hollywood is a town that thrives on rumors, and it’s been rumored that Jenkins was waiting to be offered financial compensation commensurate with her professional skill before signing any contract. The financial details have not been released, but it may be safely assumed that Jenkins will be paid more for directing Wonder Woman 2 than she was for the first Wonder Woman movie or for Monster.

Journalist Kaila Hale-Stern summed up the feelings of many fans in an article in The Mary Sue.

What we care about is the return of Jenkins—who clearly got Diana and crafted a badass action movie that was also sensitive and smart—and her unique vision coming back to direct Gadot &. Co. By every account I’ve read, the cast adored Jenkins, and I do, too. Her confirmed return doubles my excitement for the Wonder Woman sequel, and increases my confidence that it won’t be ruined by its handlers meddling too much now that Wonder Woman is hot property.

The Verge and Variety confirmed that Patty Jenkins and Geoff Johns, president of DC Comics, have been working together on the script for Wonder Woman 2.

In related news, actress Madeleine Vall Beijner, who played the Amazon warrior Egeria in Wonder Woman, posted on Instagram that she and other actresses are about to start filming scenes set in Themiscyra. It’s been rumored that Joss Whedon, who took over directing the Justice League movie when director Zack Snyder had to deal with a family emergency, has been making major changes in the film, including more emphasis on Wonder Woman and her sister Amazons.  Justice League is due in theaters November 17, 2017.

With Wonder Woman 2 directed and co-written by the talented Patty Jenkins, we’re definitely looking forward to this sequel.  What do you think?  Give us your opinion in the comments section below.
