You can always count on SCIFI.radio to get you the good stuff. Today it’s the new trailer for the upcoming 11th series of Doctor Who, starring Jodie Whittaker in the title role. Pause the SCIFI.radio stream using the control at the top of the page while you watch this.

The basic drive of our favorite Time Lord is still front and center. She’s here to help.

They’ve pulled out some serious stops on effects this time. A world has twin suns. Starship sets look like they were designed for long term use for a show of their own. Everything about what we’re being shown just shouts craftsmanship and essence of coolness, and at no place are we taken out of the moment – at least in the trailer, and we know they cherry pick these shots for trailers, so take it with a grain of salt.

Just the same.

As we understand it, showrunner Chris Chibnall’s new series of  Doctor Who takes a break from the traditional enemies and monsters the Doctor has been chasing around the cosmos, loosening up the paradigm a bit and opening new opportunities for storytelling. In addition, the Doctor doesn’t just have a companion this time. She has a crew, and that team dynamic combined with the high production values is giving us that strong Star Trek vibe. The new show looks as inspired by Star Trek as it is by Doctor Who.

The song used in the bed track for this trailer, by the way, is Glorious by Macklemore, featuring Skylar Gray, and yes, you’ll be hearing that as a regular part of the SCIFI.radio on-air library from now on.

Doctor Who stars Jodie Whittaker, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill and Bradley Walsh, making its worldwide television debut on October 7.
