Supporting Transgender Day of Remembrance
As Second Life remembered transgender victims of violence and hatred at the “Transgender Suicide Memorial,” the Justice League was there to show support and assist the event leads in a variety of ways. Pictured are JLU members Kara Timtam and Kara Foley.
So far in 2009, 95 transgender individuals have been killed due to hate crimes. The recent passing of the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act has hopes to help curtail future violence. The League believes in a peaceful future where everyone is accepted and respected for who they are. Through virtual worlds such as Second Life, everyone can strive to be tolerant and learn more about ways that we are all unique.
About the Justice League Unlimited:
The Justice League Unlimited (JLU) in Second Life in (SL) is a public service organization who pattern their avatars after classic comic book heroes. While JLU members may model their avatars after these fictional personas, the JLU is not a super-hero role-playing group. The mission of the JLU is to provide mentoring and render aid to SL residents in need, primarily new residents, in such areas as building, scripting and security. The JLU often acts as a neighborhood watch organization, patrolling heavily trafficked public areas that are prone to abuse by griefers. We also hold seminars and conventions on public safety, and help estate managers learn effective techniques for keeping their own lands safe.
