Voyage Trekkers

Krypton Radio Newswire

Voyage Trekkers is a comedy web series about the worst starship crew in the Galactic Union.  Lead by the charismatic but self-centered Captain Sunstrike (Adam Rini), with the help of the unfazed first officer Commander Powell (Logan Blackwell), and the exasperated Doctor Rena (Gabrielle Van Buren), they seek to climb their way up the space adventure ladder.

Created by Nathan Blackwell and Craig Michael Curtis, the show is produced by their production company Squishy Studios and Executive Producer Tray Goodman’s Goodman Creative Minds Media.  Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Season One began production in December 2010 and premiered in July of 2011.  Season Two started production in February 2012, but was spread throughout the year as they tackled the ambitious undertaking of building a physical bridge set for the crew.  Season Two will premiere with weekly episodes starting in May 2013.

From Writer / Director Nathan Blackwell:

“The show is truly a labor of love and it’s our comedic love letter to the sci-fi genre.  It never escapes us how great it is that we’re grown adults running around in space outfits with ray guns, fighting people with lizard masks. The project was born out of the desire to make something that was good and silly fun.”

“There was no ambitious master plan.  It was just supposed to be a single weekend with however many episodes we could finish in that time and that would be it.  But because we had such a good time, with people we loved to worked with, the project took off with a life of it’s own.”

“We’re so incredibly thankful to everyone who have helped us along the way and volunteered their time and energy to bringing this show to life.”

“We hope you enjoy watching the show as much we enjoyed making it!”

spidermanBadDay

Everybody has a bad day once in a while.  Even the Amazing Spider-Man.  This is the first of a series of animations by Stan Lee’s World of Heroes depicting superheroes having the worst days of their lives.

If even superheroes can have days like this, maybe you’re not running your own life so bad after all.

Enjoy.

We found a Doctor Who filk video this time.  It’s done by Not-Literally Productions, featuring an equally amazing Matt Smith lookalike in the person of Matt Elliott.

Not Literally Productions is a performing group that produces nerd parody music and comedy sketches based in a variety of fandoms. Ginny and Dana write the material, sing the music, perform in the videos, and handle the web content and marketing. Erik does all the filming, directing, video editing, and visual FX.

Listen for Through Time on Krypton Radio!  And watch the video too, it’s really top notch.  Enjoy.

GE Commercial Agent Smith
Krypton Radio V.O.D  & Video Review by Senior Editor, PK

Now we’re not endorsing GE’s products by any means here, but I have to admit this is a mildly funny commercial that was recently released by them. Hugo Weaving, who portrayed the villainous Agent Smith in the classic sci-fi movie The Matrix, reprises his role as the evil computer program in this commercial for General Electric’s medical systems. This time Agent Smith is a bit less evil, and is all about extolling the virtues and benefits of GE’s newest medical technology.

As I said it’s mildly funny, and ultimately a minor attempt to cash in on sci-fi nostalgia. Realistically, I’m not sure what good this does for GE or the average consumer. When I have to go to the doctor or get tests done, I don’t make it a point to request GE medical diagnostic equipment. I’m kinda at the mercy of whatever the hospital has, or can afford.

But hey, it’s a paying gig for Hugo Weaving and a chance to reprise an interesting character, even if in a bit way.

Thanks GE, I guess.

Death_star1

Krypton Radio Newswire

Death_star1Many things are open source these day, when companies or the powers at be don’t build something the way we like it, we make our own and put it out for the world to take and make their own as well. But one group is seeking to take the open source movement to the unlikely next level, which is to build an open source version of the Death Star.

A UK based group has started a Kickstarter campaign with the hopes of raising an initial amount of £20,000,000 to fund the design stage of a real Death Star, but with the stretch goal of raising “£543,000,000,000,000,00 ($850,000,000,000,000,000) to secure full funding for actual construction.

The 850 Quadrillion is the joke amount projected by the U.S. Government as the unimaginable cost of actually building a planet destroying space station, when it officially responded to a petition on the USA.gov website calling on the U.S. to build a fully functional Death Star. With tongue firmly planted in cheek, the U.S. government responded it could not and would not build a Death Star.

Despite the absurdity of the campaign, it has amazingly raised over £206,551 with 1,166 backers and 52 days to go. Because of the way Kickstarter works, when the remaining days have run out and the fundraiser ends on April 1st, the money pledged will not be sent to the person who started the Kickstarter unless they actually meet their goal.

So is the UK group serious about actually building a Star Wars styled space station capable of blowing up an entire planet? Based on the FAQ section on their Kickstarter page, it’s safe to say the answer is “no.”

Can we destroy Pluto/Earth/Another planetary body?
Any decisions on targets will be based on donator pledge amount, higher pledges first. The amount is unimportant but you will be required to pay for shipping.

What kind of hardware will you use?
Nothing has been ruled out at this point including the suggestion of using a beowulf cluster of Raspberry Pi devices.

If you actually raise the required amount what will you do with the money?
Purchase at least 4m sq of high grade chicken wire. We are hoping the death star plans will have at least twice the resolution of the initial design.

Did you forget to account for the ~10% Kickstarter and Amazon get at the end of the project?
No, as we feel if we can actually raise £543 quadrillion pounds then Kickstarter certainly deserves their cut.  As for Amazon, we’re sure they’ll agree to refund the fees once the station is complete.

Will it be solar powered?
Unlikely as it would make travel between solar systems more dangerous.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t the downfall of the first Death Star due to open source plans?
No, the first Death Stars was closed source and the theft of the plans resulting in the loss of many Bothan lives. Had the previous Death Star plans been more open, someone might have spotted the obvious design flaw. We believe that an open source project is safer, cheaper and better for everyone.

Although the question has been poised, what if this group actually raises the £20,000,000? Will they proceed with their goal to design a real Death Star? What would you do with 20 million bucks you raised as a total joke?

There's endless fan made crossovers, there may be Mass Effect/MLP team up somewhere.
Krypton Radio V.O.D double post!

Today we present two new additions to the Krypton Radio playlist, for our diehard video game fans who love BioWare’s Mass Effect, we present the Commander Shepard song by Miracle Of Sound.

Secondly, and while this may be a short one, we couldn’t help but pick up this song (which makes a great ringtone for your phone btw) by Parry Gripp, called Derp Face, made in honor of MLP:FiM fan favorite “Derpy Hooves.” Derpy for those who don’t follow the My Little Pony fandom, is a background character whom became famous for her misaligned eyes and was dubbed “Derpy,” and what would become her catchphrase, “I just don’t know what went wrong” as she became a one pony natural disaster.

Krypton Radio V.O.D!

So yesterday we came across this great pic of a man dressed as Darth Vader wearing a kilt, and playing the bagpipes while riding a unicycle.

It was a random pic we found on the net and shared with our Facebook fans. Little did we know the man featured in the pic is a performer who attends comicons and also performs music from other nerd favorite genres.

Darth Vader, wearing a kilt, playing bagpipes, and riding a unicycle. Your nerd argument just become invalid.

Much thanks to an Oregon KR listener who clued us in to this!

SheZowSquare

Krypton Radio Review

By Senior Editor PK

Every once and a while a new superhero comes along that shocks, amazes, or just kinda surprises the world of superhero fandom. SheZow created and written by Obie Scott Wade and produced by Moody Street Kids & Kickstart Productions Inc. and distributed by dhxMedia, features the animated adventures of a twelve year old boy who becomes the worlds finest female superhero.

Official show description:

Twelve year-old Guy Hamdon is a natural cut-up who fancies himself an extreme dude with his own macho catch phrase, “It’s a GUY thing.” Guy lives the dream of every rough-and-tumble boy when he discovers an awesome power ring which transforms him into a mighty superhero! Pretty cool, huh? Well, there’s just one tiny catch… the ring that gives Guy his amazing super powers was only meant to be worn by a girl and the result is absolutely she-larious! Guy must use his super powers to battle mega-villains while sporting an outrageous female superhero costume… which actually ends up helping him tremendously on his own personal journey toward becoming one heck of a super man.

SheZow has more she-puns than you can shake a she-stick at, she-seriously. SheZow which is currently only available in the Australian television market on Network Ten with select episodes on the show’s official Youtube channel, is a new animated superhero show aimed at children in the 6-11 year old range. SheZow features the main characters of Guy with his twin sister Kelly and their best friend Maz, who explore the world of SheZow when Guy and Kelly discover that their aunt Agnes now passed, was the legendary super-heroine herself.

Kelly who is the president of the SheZow fan club and self described biggest SheZow fan and expert on the planet is excited at the thought of becoming the next in the long line of famous women to wear the SheZow ring. Her dream is dashed when Guy takes the ring and jokingly puts it on to taunt his sister, not knowing that anyone who wears the ring can never take it off until they pass away. Suddenly Guy is transformed into the super powered and over feminized SheZow, with his/her superpowers including but not limited to, sonic scream, super strength, light-saber lipstick, super slap, vanishing cream (which turns him invisible) and super speed in high heels.

Combined with a super intelligent supercomputer named She-la and endless bright pink gadgetry, Guy as SheZow with Kelly as his coach on all things girly, they fight to save the world from an assortment of villains who spout as many bad puns as they do.

SheZow originally appeared as a one time animated short on the American version of the Disney channel in the early 2000s on a variety show which only lasted two seasons. With upgraded animation and higher production values the show swings head first into a new era of comedy to delight youngsters.
