The CW’s ARROW

Also premiering in October on the 10th, is DC’s Green Arrow coming to The CW in the form of a live action drama called ARROW.

From The CW: After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

The series stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance. The CW Arrow.

This is just whack. Seriously out of step with reality. Not the video. The video kicks it – it’s Felicia Day & Jason Charles Miller’s latest single, “Gamer Girl, Country Boy”, and you can hear it on Krypton Radio.

What’s so bent and broken is that the YouTube comments on her video are filled with venom. Fifteen hundred dislikes and counting (5,000+ likes), and the comments are filling up with Anonymous hating on it, saying she’s “ruined gaming”. She thinks that’s pretty empowering, actually, for four minutes of music video to do something of that magnitude.

We think that’s pretty impressive too, since as of this moment it’s only been viewed 305 times.  So where did 5,000 likes and 1500 dislikes come from?  So that’s a little puzzling.  But oh well.

And check out a cameo by Grant Imahara of Myth Busters driving through in the background about two thirds of the way through. Turns out he’s a huge fan boy, and has been seen at conventions around the western end of the United States.

Anonymous hating on it is a ringing endorsement (this must be what “hacktivists” do when they’re not stealing credit card numbers from major online services). If they vilify it, it must be good! Enjoy.

It’s not even June yet, but that hasn’t stopped Whedonopolis.com from posting the invitation to all of Southern California fandom to come see the fifth annual charity benefit screening of The Guild, the creation of actress/producer  Felicia Day and Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Each year the event, run by Fandom Charities Inc., a 501c registered charity organization, draws hundreds of people for an evening of fun with not only the fan-favorite web series but many of the people involved in the creation of them as well.  It’s very much like a sci-fi convention that lasts for a single evening, and these events typically include people arriving in costume dressed as their favorite heroes or villians (some of which they invent themselves), and the creative talent from the shows.  Felicia Day and Nathan Fillion both made appearances last year to the delight of fans, and the event raised thousands of dollars each for the popular fandom charity Kids Need To Readthat  helps provide inspiring books to underfunded schools, libraries, and literacy programs across the United States, especially those serving disadvantaged children.

The show chooses a different charity each year to support.

Last year it was held at a movie theater in North Hollywood – the year before at a hotel in Universal City.  This year it’s going to be at a major Los Angeles landmark called Barnsdall Park, home of Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Hollyhock House”.

Details of the Show are As Follows:

  • Where: Barnsdall Art Park - 4800 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA  90027
  • When: Saturday, October 27, 2012 – 7:30 PM, Doors open 6:00 PM
  • Tickets: $20 – Includes our collectible, interactive Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Goodie and Swag Bag
  • Free on-site parking. Near public transport.

The doc had to get his bling by turning gold bricks into cumin-scented secret sauce, but for a mere $1 per ticket, you can enter our drawing to win cool and fabulous prizes! The more you enter, the better your chances to win, and proceeds will go to charity (as yet to be determined). Tickets for the drawing will only be sold at the theatre.

Sing along to the special Open Caption digital version of the web masterpiece. No buffering pauses guaranteed.

Please note: The Guild has some harsh language, so please plan accordingly if you plan on bringing children.

Come as your favorite villain, hero, sidekick, henchmen or hammer. Goggles welcome!

Whedonopolis is a project of Fandom Charities Inc. (501c3), and has the unusual additional property of collecting talented like-minded individuals together, fans and pro alike, for the betterment of all.
