If you’re like us, you’ve been pouring over early Amazing Spider-Man trailers to get a better sense of the origin story reboot director Marc Webb will be serving up when the film hits the theaters July 3. A new trailer for the Japanese market gives fans a few new images, and longer cuts of scenes we’ve already seen, so you can geek out a little more.
Peter Parker is played by Andrew Garfield of The Social Network. “We all have secrets,” Parker says. “The ones we keep, and the ones that are kept from us.” The webslinger will be dealing with both in this retelling of the familiar story, as he not only protects his secret identity from loved ones but also looks for answers to the riddle of what happened to his late parents, Mary and Richard Parker.
Most of the trailer is the same as the one for American audiences, but with a little extra footage spotlighting the origin of Rhys Ifans’ the Lizard, the villian of the film. “Ready to play God?” asks the scientist, before injecting himself with a mysterious green potion that turns him into a homicidal reptile. “If you want the truth, Peter, come and get it.”
The film comes just five years after the last successful “Spider-Man” trilogy by director Sam Raimi, in between two superhero heavyweight rivals, “The Avengers” (May 4) and “The Dark Knight Rises” (July 20).
