Clark Gregg & the heads of Marvel reveal the fate of the Son of Coul

Comic conventions are wonderful things. Geeks mingle, fans unite, and the grand overlords of our favorite franchises come together to make our dreams, and sometimes our nightmares come true. Will your favorite characters get the spotlight? Will a beloved series bite the dust? Is Tony Stark ever going to lay off the martinis?

One such beloved individual in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the character who died in the summer box office blockbuster Marvel’s THE AVENGERS(Spoiler alerts, this is your ONLY warning). Since the movie’s release, the

Clark Gregg at the Marvel TV panel at this weekend’s NYCC. During the panel, a tribute to Agent Coulson was shown just before the news broke that Gregg would be a featured player in the series currently being developed by Joss Whedon.

COULSON LIVES movement has become a phenomenon. Spraypaint, bumper stickers, hash tags, what was otherwise a secondary character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has won over the minds and hearts of Marvelites worldwide, and none of us truly want to believe that our favorite everyman and resident S.H.I.E.L.D. badass was truly gone.

This weekend, during the Marvel TV panel, with the Son of Coul himself, Clark Gregg, present for the occasion, Marvel announced that Coulson does, in fact, live…and will be a part of the television show currently being developed by Joss Whedon.

Gregg attended the panel, supposedly to discuss his role in the ULTIMATE SPIDER MAN TV series, and got up to address fans about his role as Agent Phil Coulson, alongside head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb after a touching tribute to one of the MCU’s core characters. While Loeb and Gregg played to the crowd with Gregg yearning for Coulson’s return and Loeb shooting him down, the panel was interrupted by a video presentation from Whedon himself, as well as Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.  Together, the pair, with Feige in a COUSON LIVES t-shirt, revealed that Phil Coulson would not only be a part of the new show’s cast, but a central figure in the series.

“There was never going to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. show without Agent Phil Coulson!” Feige said in the video. Whedon added, “He’s headlining the S.H.I.E.L.D. show, and always was.”

The show, tentatively titled “Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D.,” will feature Phil Coulson as a central character, a fact confirmed at the panel by Loeb. The question remains, however: how did he survive? Life model decoy, perhaps? Many jokes were thrown around at the panel, but the truth remains a mystery.

All we know, for now, is what the faithful legions have believed since our hero made the ultimate sacrifice: Coulson lives…and he will return.

Bucky is Back, the Falcon Flies, and Three Circle for the Top Spot

Marvel Studios is busting with a heroic level of activity these days, trying to churn out top notch comic book movies to a rabid public hungry for more from their favorite superheroes. In today’s spotlight, we take a look at casting for one of this intrepid fan’s favorite Avengers franchises, second only to IRON MAN…the star spangled man himself, CAPTAIN AMERICA!

From left to right: Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones, and Imogen Poots.

Many are reporting that Sebastian Stan will return to reprise his role as Bucky Barnes, known to comic fans as the title character of The Winter Soldier. It’s also being reported that Anthony Mackie of REAL STEEL and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER fame has been signed to play The Falcon, but now film makers are on a quest to find themselves a leading lady. New York Daily News is reporting, along with the news on Mackie, that three actresses are being considered for this as yet undisclosed role: Anna Kendrick (UP IN THE AIR), Imogen Poots (FRIGHT NIGHT), and Felicity Jones (LIKE CRAZY).

While the role of the female lead has not been revealed, many are speculating that it will be that of SHIELD agent Sharon Carter, and no, the name is not coincidental. Fans of the comics will remember that Sharon is the niece of one Peggy Carter, the Captain’s first love, played by Hayley Atwell in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER.

So who looks good for this role? If it is, in fact, Sharon Carter being cast, my personal opinion is that Anna Kendrick may be best for the role. Her physical type hearkens back to Hayley Atwell more, and she already has some experience with blockbusters of this sort with her prior roles in the TWILIGHT movies. She’s also a higher caliber actress than Poots, and Jones may lack the necessary experience to really hold a leading role in a film of this nature.

That is, however, one humble reporter’s opinion. What are your thoughts on the casting choices?

The Patriot "Captain America Cologne"

Now You To Can Smell Like a Hulking Green Super Beast

By Staff Editor, PK

It’s been a while since I’ve stepped into a comic shop, and I knew that they could order almost anything that my geeky little heart desires, but cologne? That’s right folks, you to can now smell like one of Marvel’s The Avengers! Smell like the hulking tank smashing beast who’s been wearing those same purple shorts far past their launder date! Smell like the billionaire playboy who’s spent one too-many hours locked in a metal suit and desperately needs a shower! Smell like… Water lily? Not the fragrance I would associate with Bruce Banner’s sweaty alter ego, but hey, if you make it, nerds will buy it.

From JADS International, LLC., comes The Avengers Cologne Set, with the tag line “Finally four unique fragrances assembled for the first time!“. And forgive my sarcastic nature, but I couldn’t help but suddenly develop this mental image of a skinny nerd with horned rimmed glasses looking bewildered as a beautiful woman blows him off over his offer of a date; standing there with a tear dripping from his eye and thinking, “but I smell like Iron Man, how could she turn me down?”. But believe it or not, if you desire to smell like Captain America, Iron Man, The Hulk, or Thor; all you have to do is hit up your local comic retailer who can order you up a batch for only $59.99.

If you thought JADS International was a familiar name in the geek/nerd world, you’d be right. JADS has also brought us cologne collections involving Star Trek and Star Wars; with scents such as Shirtless Kirk Cologne and Red Shirt Cologne, for when you feel the need to be that expendable unnamed guy in the landing party. But if you’re more in the swinging mood, and want to meld your favorite nerd girl, check out Pon Farr Perfume for Her. Or if she’s looking to be your little Slave Girl to your Jabba the Hut, (bad mental image there) then check out Slave Leia Perfume.

Not a whole lot to say, except Happy New Years! We’re looking forward to bringing you even more music, news, and the best entertainment we can in the new year, we’ll celebrate by sharing some trailers for movies that the boys and girls at Krypton Radio are looking forward to seeing in 2012!

And in no particular order:

Battleship

Hasbro has brought us many joys and nightmares over the years; toys that inspired cartoons, which inspired more toys and emptied our parent’s wallets. Twenty years later, karma bites us in the butt, as our wallets are emptied from the movies and toys inspired by our childhood memories. Once again Hasbro eyes our bank accounts, as they flash the next movie monster inspired by a toy that’s been around since many of our parent’s were young. BATTLESHIP!

A board game that as far as anyone can remember, never had a story to it, other than to sink the other guy’s boats and give you a reason to taunt your siblings and friends with your uncanny ability to guess the position of little plastic ships. Yet, we see the next sci-fi epic of Battleship, featuring the story of our great Naval Fleet suddenly attacked by underwater alien life forms, using mechs and an otherworldly assortment of weapons in an attempt to wipe out our servicemen.
