There is more to the world of science fiction and fantasy than the written word.  It’s also the visual and audible arts.  This week we are proud to have with us Commander Bob and Anouk, the songwriter and the lead singer for the amazing French steampunk band, Victor Sierra!  They’re a Paris-based band, with a remarkable sound and a unique history.  They didn’t set out to be a steampunk band – instead, they developed their own sound and discovered after the fact that they belonged to that world.

In this unusual interview, we talk to Commander Bob and Anouk about their origins, their inspirations and their music, and we even get to play a couple of pieces.

It airs at 9PM Pacific, Midnight Eastern, and again on Sunday at 4PM Pacific, 7PM Eastern.

Victor Sierra is a steampunk band that takes the genre and pushes it way above and beyond the basic definition.  Their rich, lush, multilayered approach to to the steampunk ideal creates an impressive solid wall of sound.  You hear something new each time you listen to one of their songs.  Not willing to rest on the quality of the  instrumentals themselves, they have terrific vocalists and deep lyrics that fully engage you.  You don’t listen to Victor Sierra so much as live it.

This is what makes it so surprising that they need your help with their IndieGoGo fundraising campaign, but they do.  At this writing they have fifteen days to reach their modest goal of $6,000 U.S. dollars to record their next album this year in 2013.

Steampunk is widely known as the “friendliest subculture” where all are invited to participate and exercise their imaginations.  Appropriately the main goal of the 2012 Steampunk World’s Fair is to incorporate this value into the festival itself to provide the most fun for all.  Ergo the label of “convention” has been released and replaced with “festival”.

The co-creator and chief organizer of Steampunk World’s Fair, Jeff Mach, is the driving force behind this “fun” initiative, “We chose to identify Steampunk World’s Fair as a festival for 2012 because this year is well…more festive!” says Mach.  “This year we have made it our priority to provide more fun and entertainment for steampunks and steam-families than any other steampunk event in the world.”  With the extensive lists of performers, guests, and attendees, this year will certainly be a joyous occasion for all.
