“Epic”, due out May 24, 2013. It’s being directed by Blue Sky’s Chris Wedge, and stars Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson and Beyoncé Knowles.

The creators of the Ice Age trilogy, Robots and the upcoming Peanuts movie are working on something new, and it looks epic.

Well, actually, it’s called that too.  Epic. Which we certainly hope the film lives up to.  It’s got all the fixings – coming of age story where a jaded teenage girl manages to get herself magically transported to an alternate world that only her father had any inkling of before.  The crazies are vindicated, there are heroes, and villians who want to destroy the forest, a bittersweet love story woven through it, and all manner of magical and semi-magical creatures.  The cute creatures are cute, the scary creatures are scary.  It looks well animated and well crafted – but will it be Epic? We hope so, because we’ve seen the coming of age story where a child visits a magical world only he/she can see more times than we can remember – Ferngully: The Last Rainforest did it in 1992.  The Ant Bully did it in 2006. Coraline did it in 2009.

Epic is due out May 24, 2013, is being directed by Chris Wedge (who has directed pretty much everything Blue Sky has ever done, and was even the voice of the accident prone “Skrat”), and stars Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson and Beyoncé Knowles.

The song on the trailer is “What If The Storm Ends”, by Snow Patrol, in case you’re curious.  And yes, you can hear it on Krypton Radio if you listen.
