Oscar winning actor Ben Affleck has had his share of ups and downs. He won the Oscar for his breakout film Good Will Hunting in 1997. Nobody knows much right now but for this simple announcement on The Hollywood Reporter.
In a statement, director Zack Snyder said of Affleck, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
Growing up, the Marvel Comic book character Daredevil was his hero. We’d almost forgotten that he’d played the character in the 2003 movie, so he’s actually got some experience beneath the cowl. He does have some pretty amazing acting chops. He’s worked on the highly acclaimed films Armageddon and Shakespeare In Love, but he’s also played opposite Jennifer Lopez in one of the all time worst box office diasasters, Gigli – though admittedly that was mostly the fault of the director, the editor and the horrible screenwriting.
Snyder, who directed “Man of Steel,” is set to co-write the story with David S. Goyer, who will pen the screenplay.
Production is expected to begin next year, with a July 17, 2015, release date.
