Lynda_CarterThe Palm Springs Walk of Stars will honor Lynda Carter, television’s original Wonder Woman, with the 369th Golden Palm Star during a star dedication ceremony on Saturday May 10, 2014 at 4:00pm.  The new star will be commemorated at The Corridor Shops at 515 North Palm Canyon Drive.  The public and media are invited to attend the star dedication ceremony.

Most known Lynda Carter in her iconic red and blue tights, but the Emmy-winning star is also a singer and humanitarian, and a former Miss World pageant winner in 1972. She  grew up in a house filled with music and was encouraged to sing since she spoke her first word.  She’s been singing and acting on stage and screen most of her life.

Ms. Carter continues to tour and has released two CD’s,  At Last (2008) and Crazy Little Things (2010).  The “At Last” CD landed at #6 on Billboards Jazz charts.  She’s also provided voices for three Elder Scrolls games, and has appeared in a bewildering list of films and television shows including the theatrical version of Dukes of Hazard, the Disney superhero dramedy Sky High, an episode of Smallville as Chloe Sullivan’s mother, and she even did a guest spot on The Muppet Show.

Ms. Carter is also a staunch advocate and supporter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Pro-Choice rights for women, and legal equality for LGBT people. She was the Grand Marshal for the 2011 Phoenix Pride & 2011 New York Pride Parades, as well as the 2013 Capital Pride Parade in Washington, D.C.

The Palm Springs Walk of Stars is a fairly new phenomenon.  It was founded in 1992 and has honored 368 individuals with a Golden Palm Star placed on the sidewalks of Palm Springs.  It’s surprising to note that it’s larger counterpart, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was begun only in 1956. Show business honorees in the Walk of Stars must have made an impact worldwide in the area of show business. All other star honorees must have contributed to the charm, worldwide prominence and name recognition of Greater Palm Springs.
