Today we celebrate the birthday of Chris Evans! The 33-year-old actor is best known for his iconic role as Captain America/Steve Rogers in Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and as The Human Torch in Marvel’s Fantastic Four and the sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Evans was born in 1981 in Boston. He is a graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School and his first role was in Not Another Teen Movie. He played The Human Torch in the 2005 adaptation of Fantastic Four and the 2007 follow-up, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Along with his role as Captain America, this makes him a Marvel Comics anomaly; both of his characters appear on a Strange Tales cover together.

Following the Fantastic Four movies, he starred alongside Keanu Reeves in the 2008 Street Kings, and in 2009 alongside Dakota Fanning and Camilla Belle in Push, a sci-fi thriller.

Returning to comic book roles, he appeared in the 2010 adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World as one of the seven evil ex-boyfriends.

It is his role as Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger that skyrocketed Evans to fame; it led him to land a leading role alongside Anna Faris in the romantic comedy What’s Your Number, and a Gucci cologne campaign with Evan Rachel Wood.

Evans plans to make his directorial debut in the future for a film he also stars in, 1:30 Train, and is slated to continue playing the beloved Captain America in the 2015 Avengers: Age of Ultron and the yet-untitled third Captain America film.
