Yes, yes, we know, “Make it so,” in his Picard-voice and all that, plus the role Stewart was practically born to play, everyone’s favorite Mutant-lover Professor Charles Xavier. But do you know what else our beloved best-Star–Trek-captain-ever has done?
Stewart played the warrior-troubador Gurney Halleck in David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of Dune, and gave some of the best one-liners in his unforgettable voice. He was King Henry II in The Lion in Winter, a dream for any British-born actor. As a matter of fact, his well-known voice has popped up practically everywhere in recent years, from Star Trek and X-Men video games, to American Dad, Family Guy, The Simpsons, Futurama, Robot Chicken and let us not forget his adorable performance as King Richard in Robin Hood: Men in Tights! He was awarded Knight Bachelor of the Order of the British Empire in 2010, so now it’s even Sir Patrick Stewart, which is awesome and a half.
Much is made of the great friendship between the two British acting titans, Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen, even to the point of McKellen officiating at Stewart’s wedding to Sunny Ozell in September, 2013. Legends are still told of the “Picard maneuver,” the name given to the tunic-straightening gesture Stewart always made on the set of Star Trek: The Next Generation. There seems to be no slowing down Stewart, who lives life every day to the fullest!
So what does Sir Patrick Stewart want for his birthday? He is an avid supporter of Combat Stress for his father, and Refuge for his mother, and would be glad of donations to those, or any number of other charities he supports.
We at Krypton Radio with Patrick Stewart a stellar birthday, and a brilliant year to come!
