Jeremy Renner celebrates his birthday today! The Academy-Award-nominated actor is most known for his role as the main character in 2008’s The Hurt Locker (for which he was nominated for the Oscar), Hawkeye in 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers, Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy, and William Brandt in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Renner was born in Modesto, California, and got his start acting for a local police-training exercise. It was then that he realized his acting potential and moved to San Francisco to study at the American Conservatory Theater. In 2002, he gained much attention for his role as the title character in the film Dahmer. For the role, he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award.

His portrayal in Dahmer caught the attention of Kathryn Bigelow, who was soon to be the director of Academy-Award-winning The Hurt Locker. Renner was nominated for Best Actor. This wouldn’t be his only Academy nomination, though. His supporting role in the 2011 film, The Town, earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination as well. The year 2011 also brought him Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, in which he played a supporting role to Mission Impossible veteran Tom Cruise. In the upcoming Mission: Impossible 5, which is currently filming, Renner is also credited.

Perhaps his largest commitment role, Hawkeye in Marvel’s Avengers franchise, has brought Renner to movies beside Avengers, as well. In 2011, he appeared uncredited as Hawkeye in Thor for familiarity later on when he would be a featured character of the superhero team. He will also appear in this year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron to reprise his character.

Aside from acting, Renner is also a talented musician. He performed comedic songs on Saturday Night Live, and has appeared in the music video for P!nk’s song, Trouble. He also runs a home-renovating business and is a United Nations Goodwill Peace Ambassador to raise awareness for mine-clearing efforts in Afghanistan. Renner welcomed a baby girl, Ava Berlin, into his life in March of 2013. We here at Krypton Radio wish Jeremy Renner a very happy birthday!
