Back in 2012, series creator, E.J. De La Pena, was playing a lead in a feature film called Starship: Rising, written and directed by Neil Johnson. The idea for Nobility came to De La Pena while he was taking some time on set to get familiar with the character and thinking about a recent suggestion to write a comedy. A consummate sci-fi fan, De La Pena thought of a blending of two of his favorite concepts – starships and Modern Family-style mockumentaries. Over time, the concept evolved into its current incarnation of Firefly meets The Office.
Starship: Rising director Neil Johnson became excited about the Nobility project and signed on. He and the long list of industry professionals who have signed on since are giving some serious credence to the project. Cast members include Doug Jones, Walter Koenig, Darren Jacobs, Torri Higginson, James Kyson, Adrienne Wilkinson, Ellen Durbin, Christopher Judge, Miracle Laurie, and Cas Anvar as the captain of the Nobility.
This week’s episode of The Event Horizon was recorded before a live studio audience at the clubhouse of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society in Los Angeles, California. Gene Turnbow and Susan Fox host. The show will air again on Sunday at 4 p.m. PST, and at various other times during the coming week.
