Adam West and Burt Ward will be reprising their roles as Batman & Robin in a new animated feature-length motion picture – possibly two of them, if the first one does as well as everybody expects. The first film, to be released sometime in 2016, is timed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the original 1966 television series that rocketed both actors to stardom almost overnight. The announcement was made during a panel at Mad Monster Party in Charlotte, North Carolina this past weekend.
The first film will be 90 minutes in length. There’s no listing on IMDB.com for the project yet, so you now know as much as we know.
The announcement comes on the heels of a surprising wave of renewed interest in Batman ’66. Toys, model kits, toys, action figures and new DVD releases of the original series have been insanely popular with a completely new audience, most of whom weren’t alive when the television series originally aired. The film will be done in the style of the television show, and we have a strong suspicion that the project(s) will be done by Warner Bros. Animation and released directly to Blu-Ray.

Well, actually, next bat-year. But it was still fun to say.
