R/C builder Otto Dieffenbach of Flyguy Promotions recently built a custom remote-controlled quadcopter that looks like Snoopy, Charlie Brown‘s pet dog for the Peanuts comic strips.

You have to watch this video. It’s astonishing. Snoopy’s head even turns as he zooms around, and it’s the finishing touch to an amazing effect. He plans to fly it over the convention center in San Diego for the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con. Dieffenbach says he was inspired to make his “World War I Flying Ace” version of Snoopy by the trailer for The Peanuts Movie.

Thanks to the invention of the quadcopter, aerodynamics of a flying model can now take a back seat to design, so all sorts of unlikely things can take to the air – like this flying Enterprise NCC-1701D, these S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarriers, or this flying model Delorean from Back to the Future. You’ll notice that in part of the video the doghouse is essentially flying on its back, which demonstrates that physics still works, and that even though it can take to the air doesn’t mean it wasn’t a challenge getting it there.

This isn’t the first flying Snoopy doghouse, but it’s probably the best. Dieffenbach finished this one back in February, and says he was inspired by another one he saw in action when he was just 13. If Blue Sky Productions wanted to create a really effective publicity event for the upcoming movie, they would have been hard pressed to come up with a better one. The Peanuts Movie  is scheduled to hit the big screen on November 6, 2015.
