Sophie Aldred as "Ace"

Sophie Aldred as “Ace”

This week on The New MarkWHO42it’s one of Doctor Who fandom’s favorite actresses: Sophie Aldred!  She played “Ace” to the 7th Doctor, played by Sylvester McCoy, between 1987 and 1989.

Sophie Aldred has much more working history than Doctor Who, busying herself with educational and children’s programming, including  Corners, Melvin and Maureen’s Music-a-grams (which ran from 1992-1996), Tiny and Crew (1995-1999), the BBC series Words and Pictures and a CITV paranormal show called It’s a Mystery in 1996. She also played the character Minnie The Mini Magician from Series 8 onwards on CITV’s ZZZap! between 1999 and 2001.

Aldred has also presented and sung in a variety of BBC Schools Radio series, on other radio serials and in the theater. She has also reprised her role as Ace in the 1993 30th anniversary charity special Dimensions in Time and the Doctor Who audio plays produced by Big Finish Productions.
