12th-Sonic-on-White-3qrtrs-frnt-3585pxDoctor Who and Sherlock fans will be delighted to discover that the BBC is selling off their inventory at astonishingly low prices, usually half off.  They’re selling things like various sonic screwdrivers, DVD and Blu-ray sets, coffee mugs and toys. As the inventory depletes, they’re removing the items from the store page, and they’re down to about 20 items now, so if you’re going to buy anything, do it now to get the best price. They’ve set the sale prices at up to 60% off.

The goal is to close out the physical inventory of BBC Shop.com by March 30, though UK residents will still be able to buy digital content there. BBC Shop Australia closed on February 29; the reasoning is that all the stuff they sell is already easily purchasable elsewhere from various existing licensed vendors, and there simply isn’t any need for them to sustain physical inventory themselves anymore. We’ll still be able buy DVD and other branded merchandise directly from the BBC via the US and Canadian online stores, so we’re going to be fine on this side of the Atlantic.

All the brick and mortar BBC Shops have already closed, though there is still a kiosk located in the Media Café of New Broadcasting House in London which offers a range of BBC branded merchandise, t-shirts, pens, postcards and a small selection of gift items. Open hours are Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 5.30pm, Sundays 10am to 5.30pm.  The address is Portland place, London, W1A 1AA.
