Pearl Mackie joins Peter Capaldi in the TARDIS as the Doctor’s newest companion. Her new role as “Bill” was introduced to the world during half time of the FA Cup semi-final match between Everton and Manchester United.  Mackie, 28, replaces Jenna Coleman, whose character Clara Oswald left the show in 2015. Filming for the next series of the beloved science fiction show has already begun, but it won’t air until 2017.

Mackie said her new character “Bill” was “wicked”, describing her as “cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in”.

You can see Bill’s first appearance on camera with Peter Capaldi in this exciting teaser from her first episode right here! Remember to pause the Krypton Radio stream or at least turn down the volume if you have it playing currently, so that you can hear every word.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Doctor Who family,” she said. “It’s such an extraordinary British institution, I couldn’t be prouder to call the Tardis my home. Peter Capaldi is such a brilliant actor, and his Doctor is such a wacky and wonderful character, I can’t wait to see what adventures are in store for him and Bill throughout time and space.”

We love her irrepressible personality and sense of humor, and we can’t wait to see what Mackie and Capaldi’s on-screen chemistry will be like. Must there be such a long wait before we see it, BBC?  This is agony.
