The first trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot has the unfortunate distinction of being the worst received movie trailer in YouTube history. The director of the new film is Paul Feig. He has apparently taken the comments on the first trailer very seriously, and we have this new trailer that focuses a lot less on presenting the film as a slapstick homage to the original and a lot more on the solid visual effects and story line.

Have a look. Turn off the Krypton Radio stream using the controller at the upper right if you have to. The soundtrack in the trailer is layered and rich, and you don’t want to miss the dialog.

In this new trailer, we get to see the chemistry of the new team of lady Ghostbusters come together. It seems natural and genuine, and we get to see them handle their new crises as a team.

An awful lot of the backlash about Ghostbusters is due, we think, to the disappointing handling of Batman v Superman. Believe it or not, we’re actually laying this at the feet of Zack Snyder, the director of that film. Because of his somewhat cynical handling of the beloved characters in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, the theater-going public has become mistrustful of modern Hollywood industry directors. It’s all about respect for the material, and when the studios pump out film after film that doesn’t show that respect to either the material or the fans, the fans are going to react badly.

We think Paul Feig actually does understand what the Ghostbusters franchise is all about. Once the fans see this new trailer, they’ll get it, and we think everything is going to go just fine for this new film. Frankly, we can’t wait to see it ourselves.

Good job pulling this out of the fire, Paul.

Ghostbusters is directed by Paul Feig, stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth, and hits the big screen on July 15, 2016.
