Proving that true science fiction still has a place in the motion picture theater, Paramount has released the first trailer for the hard sci-fi thriller Arrival. It stars the talented and versatile Amy Adams as an expert linguist, enlisted by the U.S. government for a dangerous First Contact mission when a gigantic extraterrestrial spacecraft enters Earth’s atmosphere and comes to a hovering stop a few hundred feet above the surface.

The movie has a strong pedigree, indeed. Adams has been nominated for five Oscars for her work in movies like “American Hustle” and “The Fighter.” Renner got nominations for “The Town” and Best Picture winner “The Hurt Locker.” And Villeneuve received acclaim for his recent features “Prisoners” and last year’s “Sicario,” which scored three Academy Award nods.

Arrival is based on a short story by Ted Chiang called The Story of Your Life. The film is directed by Sicario and Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve. Also starring Jeremy Renner (“Hawkeye” from the Marvel Avengers moves), and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, the film has its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 2 in Caliifornia, and opens in theaters on November 11.
