The second trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is finally here! It debuted last night during the Summer Olympics on NBC. This new trailer shows us a great deal more about the early struggles of the Rebel Alliance against the Empire. The first of a series of “Star Wars Story” movies, this one is set before Episode IV – A New Hope, and shows us exactly how the plans for the first Death Star were stolen in the first place, and how the Rebels deal the Empire its first significant loss.

This new trailer talks about a major weapons test. The heroics are all there, the death defying odds, and the tension within the Alliance is high. They haven’t started to get the upper hand yet, so of course everybody’s on edge. Months ago we spoke to Alan Tudyk on our weekly panel show The Event Horizon, and he told us he’d been working on this film. Now we know what role he was playing, and it’s Kaytoo (K-2SO), the gigantic droid, and we get to see a couple of quick clips of him. According to Mr. Tudyk, Kaytoo is more than just a walk-on part.  And at the end of the trailer, we get a quick tease of Darth Vader. Yes, the penultimate Star Wars villain is back!

Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards, and stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe, Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook, Alan Tudyk as the droid K-2SO, Ben Mendelsohn as villainous Director Orson Krennic, and James Earl Jones returns as the voice of Darth Vader. The film hits theaters December 16, 2016.
