Even after five years, Bethesda’s Skyrim is still one of the richest, most immersive games there is, even to its music. The rich aural tapestry sweeps you away to another world, and another time. Interestingly, one of the really good ways to learn about the mythological world of Skyrim is through its music, and one of the best places to hear that is its taverns and inns. There you will typically find a bard who can sing you the songs of Skyrim from his or her perspective – for a few Septims.

What’s surprising is that these songs are not only actually listenable, but if properly performed, can be fine art in and of themselves. That brings us to today’s video of the day. It’s the Swedish Radio Symphony orchestra, featuring singer Sabina Zweiacker, singing Jeremy Soule’s The Dragonborn Comes.

Be sure to pause the SCIFI.radio stream while listening.

The Dragonborn Comes fortells the coming of the Dragonborn, one of dragon decent with the voice powers of a full dragon who will end the black plans of an evil dragon of a bygone age, who seeks to return to the world of Men. This performance is actually in two languages, one the language of dragons, and one, thankfully, in English. Miss Zweiacker dips into both in this chilling rendition.

Lyrics for The Dragonborn Comes

Our hero, our hero
Claims a warrior’s heart
I tell you, I tell you
The Dragonborn comes

With a Voice wielding power
Of the ancient Nord art
Believe, believe,
The Dragonborn comes

It’s an end to the evil
Of all Skyrim’s foes
Beware, beware
The Dragonborn comes

For the darkness has passed
And the legend yet grows
You’ll know, you’ll know
The Dragonborn’s come

Dovahkiin, Dovahkiin
Naal ok zin los vahriin
Wah dein vokul mahfaeraak ahst vaal
Ahrk fin norok paal graan
Fod nust hon zindro zaan
Dovahkiin, fah hin kogaan mu draal

Chorus Translation

Dragonborn, Dragonborn
By his honor is sworn
To keep evil forever at bay
And the fierce foe route
When they hear triumph’s shout
Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray
