Coming to theaters August 4, 2017, Sony Pictures Animation takes us into the world that exists within your smartphone with The Emoji Movie.
The film introduces us to Textopolis, the city where all the Emojis live, waiting to be selected by the phone’s user. One of the Emojis is Gene (voiced by T.J. Miller), an Emoji who was born without a filter and is bursting with different expressions. Hoping to become normal like other Emojis, Gene’s “appventure” begins with the aid of his friends, Hi-5 (James Corden) and code breaker Emoji Jailbreak (Ilana Glazer). Together they go on a quest, taking them through the apps on the phone, searching for the code that will fix Gene. But when a greater danger threatens this world, the three friends must do what it takes to save their world before it’s deleted forever.
Popular apps are featured in the film, which include Candy Crush Saga, Dropbox, Instagram, Just Dance, Spotify, Twitter, Facebook, Crackle, and YouTube. Each app presents it’s own stand alone world that come to life in their own unique ways. Spotify, for example, characters ride rushing streams made of music.
The movie is being directed by Tony Leondis. Written by Tony Leondis & Eric Siegel and Mike White. Produced by Michelle Raimo Kouyate. Released by Sony Pictures Animation.
It also features the voice of comedian Steven Wright, who plays Mel Meh, Gene’s father, who is featured in the teaser trailer below. Have a look see (Please remember to pause the Krypton Radio player before watching the video).
