Perfume seems like a strange direction to take geek culture, but if you’re a hardcore fan and you wear perfume you just might want this. Perfumes based on characters from the Geek-o-sphere have been made before, but this is the first time that we know of that it’s been done for Star Trek.
Each bottle looks like a classic Trek communicator, and there are four scents – one each for Kirk, Uhura, and Spock.
The James T. Kirk perfume was inspired by the captain’s bravery, charisma, and, uh, masculine charm.
Kirk smells like “Bergamot, lavender, apple and grapefruit chords which gently but determinately introduce into the floral and very coherent heart note consisting of lily of valley, rose, geranium and violet. This versatile composition is supported by a warm base note created out of tonka, cinnamon, leather, sandalwood and patchouli that completes this intense fragrance experience.”
The Uhura fragrance “the soul of a woman who did so much for emancipation, not only on board of the U.S.S. Enterprise, but also in real life.”
Uhura smells like “fruity top notes consisting of bergamot, mango, grapefruit and neroli. The heart note presents itself more flowery with premium chords of orange blossoms, violet leaves and jasmine. The combination of cedarwood, musk, amber, and sandalwood is used to grant this perfume with Uhura’s sensuality and to complete this all in all perfect creation.” We’ve met Nichelle Nichols in real life, and she really is not only a lovely lady, but the hero everyone thinks she is. A perfume dedicated to her is a wonderful idea, frankly.
Spock’s perfume centers around his nobility and deep intellect.
Spock’s scent is described as “tangerine, cardamom and pineapple opens this excellent aromatic fragrance creation within its top note. This harmonious scent accord leads into the warm heart note which is dominated by lavender, violet leaves and pink pepper. To round off this exquisite arrangement of high-quality perfumery ingredients and to complete this outstanding composition, patchouli, suede and cedarwood have been used for the base note.”
The scent designer(s) went to great lengths to capture the spirit of each character, and the bottles are a delight. There’s only one catch: if you want them, you’ll have to either live in Europe, or have somebody who lives there order them for you. They won’t be offered for sale in the United States. We’re not sure how we feel about that, but it’s nowhere on the “happy” scale.
