Received from the organizers of the Bellevue, Washington British media fan convention Anglicon 2018, an announcement regarding the fate of the convention:

It is with great regret we must announce that Anglicon 2018 has been cancelled. There are many factors that lead to this decision, including low ticket sales, insufficient hotel room reservations, and a major guest that had to cancel due to professional obligations. We also deeply regret any inconvenience this causes our members.

Further updates will be forthcoming, including information about the refund of memberships.

We will be holding the general meeting on October 21st, 2018 at 1:30 at the Mountlake Terrace Library (23300 58th Ave W, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043), where the executive committee will be available to answer questions.

Thank you everyone that pledged, volunteered, and joined us as a member. It’s been an honor and a privilege to be part of such a magnificent piece of the Northwest fan community.

Fees charged in advance for memberships are being returned, with some members having already received their refunds via PayPal if they chose that method of payment. Pledges made through Kickstarter will not be charged.

A further comment from the convention planners on the convention’s Facebook page:

As you can imagine, this news makes all the volunteers that make Anglicon possible extremely sad, as collectively we have put in thousands of hours to create what we hoped would be a fun time for everyone. Unfortunately, it simply wasn’t possible.

For more information, see their web site at http://anglicon.org.

To their great credit, the organizers of Anglicon recognized their situation and acted on that information far enough in advance to handle matters in a graceful and professional manner. We at SCIFI.radio wish them the best, and thank them for their devotion to their project and their dedication to ideals of fandom.
