In this trailer, we see much more footage of the half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry as a child, learning about himself and his heritage.

With each trailer, they reveal more of the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of Atlantis, and the epic coming of age story and hero’s journey the film embraces. They’re showing so much, though, that we have to wonder how much, if anything, they’ve held back for the actual film. It’s traditional to hold back the best for the actual movie. Can director  James Wan be so confident in what his team has made that all this is only the appetizer?

The final shot in the trailer is one we’ve seen in previous trailers for this movie, which is Jason Mamoa in the iconic orange and green suit. This new look is the pinnacle of the gradual rehabilitiation of the character over the past few decades, despite Mamoa not being blonde-haired. Arthur Curry has gotten more sophisticated and complex as a character since the early days when some animator at Hanna-Barbera thought it would be cool to show him using flying fish as roller skates.

Aquaman also stars Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Platoon, Spider-Man 2) as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne, Patrick Wilson (Watchmen) as Orm/Ocean Master, Arthur Curry’s half-brother and the present King of Atlantis, Dolph Lundgren (you’ll remember him from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and The Expendables films) as Nereus, King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Netflix’s The Get Down) as the vengeful Black Manta; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (The Golden Compass, Lion) as Arthur’s mom, Atlanna. Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Green Lantern) plays Arthur’s dad, Tom Curry.

The film being distributed by Warner Bros. and is set to hit theaters on December 21, 2018, in 3D and 2D and IMAX, and will be distributed worldwide.
