How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World will officially be released February 22, but those lucky enough to have seen sneak previews have given it nothing but rave reviews. For those who can’t get enough of the dragons of Berk, Netflix has announced a new series called DreamWorks Dragons: Rescue Riders!
John C. McGinley will be voicing a character named Grumblegard. McGinley has appeared in Chicago P.D.. as Brian Kelton and in Stan Against Evil as Stanley Miller. He also had a role as the voice of the Atom in Justice League Unlimited. The rest of the crew has not been announced, but he tweeted about the role in a Twitter conversation in a reply to the @jmcfanclub.
The new series is purported to be set in parallel to the events in “How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World”. Here’s a clip from How to Train Your Dragon 2 that shows an unused rescue scene. This may give you a bit of the flavor of what the new show is about, though the series may actually end up being about rescuing dragons, rather than training dragons for rescue work.
The new series will begin broadcast on Netflix sometime in 2019. It’s been in production since November 2017 or earlier, and has been scheduled for release this year as of May 2017. This is some of the same people who did Race to the Edge, including the Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Jack Thomas, so it will be the same quality we’re used to seeing from DreamWorks Animation.
The world in which Hiccup and Toothless are heroes is given more scaly, firebreathing life. Are you looking forward to a new cartoon about dragonriders, Vikings warriors, and shieldmaidens?
