‘Arrow’ Bids Farewell After The Coming Season
Nothing lasts forever, especially on TV, and two popular genre shows are scheduled to draw to a conclusion: Variety announced Arrow will end after its run after a 10-episode eighth season, and the MarySue tells us that Supernatural will be closing shop after fifteen seasons.
Arrow, the adventures of millionaire playboy Oliver Queen, alias the archer vigilante Green Arrow, is the CW’s longest running superhero TV show. It lent its name (the “Arrowverse”) to the shared universe of DC Comics-based, Berlanti-produced shows: The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Constantine and Supergirl. Although not all occurring in the same dimension, the four shows have crossed over several times.
Arrow stars Steven Amell as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. The show is noted for its superb guest cast: Torchwood‘s John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn/Dark Archer, Misfits of Science‘s Christina Cox as Mayor Celia Castle, Firefly‘s Summer Glau as Isabel Rochev, Rocky IV‘s Dolph Lundgren as Konstantin Kovar, and Highlander‘s Adrian Paul as Dante, and more.
Executive producer Greg Berlanti announced,
“This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of ‘Arrow’ in mind,” With so many shows ending with loose threads dangling, it’s nice to know the production crew will have the opportunity to draw events to a satisfying conclusion.
Berlanti and his team will be busy working on other Arrowverse shows. Amell should not have trouble finding other acting gigs. As for Arrow itself, it will doubtless survive in syndication or possibly turn up on DC’s streaming service.
And So Goes ‘Supernatural’ …
In an emotional farewell posted on Jensen Ackles‘ Instagram feed, the stars of Supernatural make the announcement themselves. In his words, “because we wanted you to hear it from us.”
Series stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins made the announcement on Instagram on Friday. “We just told the crew that even though we’re very excited to be moving into our 15th season, it will be our last,” Ackles said. “15 years of a show that has certainly changed my life, I know it’s changed these two guys’ lives, and we just wanted you to here from us that though we’re excited about next year, it will be the finale.”
“We’ve cried some tears and we’ll cry some more, but we’re grateful and we’re going to work all that emotion into next season,” added Padalecki. Watch the announcement in full below.
You are going to want to pause the Krypton Radio music stream using the controller at the top of the column to the right if it’s currently playing, so that you can hear what the boys have to say.
The final season will consist of 20 episodes.
When Supernatural has its series finale, it will have aired more than 320 episodes. Created by Eric Kripke, the show started when The CW was still The WB Network and is the lone WB series to still be on the air.
