Unveiling the trailer to Canadian-American horror comedy Ready or Not, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures lightens the mood of this year’s genre releasings by giving fans of the macabre a fun-filled treat.

While the premise involves a bride marrying into a wealthy family and their lucrative gaming dynasty, this is no Disney fairy tale. Though, it may bear closure resemblance to tales by the Brothers Grimm … with a comedic twist.

SCIFI.radio's TRAILER PARK

On her wedding night, Grace (Samara Weaving: The Babysitter, Mayhem) is treated to a traditional game of hide and seek by her newly-wedded husband (Mark O’Brien: Arrival) and his eccentric family. To win, she must stay hidden until dawn. While finding it odd, to say the least, the new bride is eager to join the harmless fun. However, the night takes a terrifying turn for Grace as she discovers deadly unspoken stipulations to this game of hide and seek. Will Grace survive the night? Odds seem to lean into her favor as the jumpy, trigger happy aristocrats must also survive each other’s blunders.

Showcasing a cast of familiar faces including three-time Golden Globe nominee Andie MacDowell (Groundhog Day, Bill Murray) and award-winning actor Henry Czerny (Mission Impossible, Fido), Ready or Not already looks promising. However, it is Weaving leading the film that caught my attention. Giving phenomenal performances in off the wall, horror comedies The Babysitter and Mayhem, this up and coming actress is the perfect choice to lead this film that radiates such similarities to her previous work. Sci-fi comedy fans will also soon be introduced to Weaving’s talent as she is listed in a significant role for Bill & Ted Face the Music.

Samara Weaving in Ready or Not

Though Ready or Not directors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have little in the way of full-length features under their belt, the first look at their latest collaboration conveys a fun, worthwhile blend of comedy and horror. Scheduled to be released on August 23, 2019 through Fox Searchlight Pictures, a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, this feature is a welcome gem to give horror fans another to add to their list of upcoming anticipations.
