Veteran horror and sci-fi actor Sid Haig has passed away. He died September 21, 2019 after a brief illness and hospitalization in Los Angeles, California. He was 80.
Born Sidney Eddie Mosesian on July 14, 1939 in Fresno, California, Haig’s sixty year acting career included more than 100 roles, mostly villians. He was a veteran of the horror movie genre, including the career-defining role of Captain Spaulding in House of 1,000 Corpses and its sequels, The Devil’s Rejects, 3 from Hell, and The Haunted World of El Superbeasto. He may be best known to television enthusiasts, however, as the villain Dragos in Jason of Star Command on Saturday mornings.
Ironically, on Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, he played Julie Newmar’s henchman, but on Jason of Star Command she played one of his henchwomen.
Over his long career, he guest starred on many TV shows, westerns, espionage, action-adventure, science fiction, and sitcoms. He appeared on Star Trek as the First Lawgiver in Return of the Archons. He was King Tut’s Royal Apothecary in Batman. He was NCH in George Lucas’ seminal film THX 1138. He had an uncredited role in Beware! The Blob as Zed. He appeared in Wonderbug, and in the 1981 low budget sci-fi horror flick Galaxy of Terror. He also played a biker in It’s a Bikini World, but of course he was best known for his horror work. Other horror actors and producers admired his work and him personally.
His wife, Susan L. Oberg wrote, “My light, my heart, my true love, my King, the other half of my soul, Sidney, passed from this realm on to the next. He has returned to the Universe, a shining star in her heavens. He was my angel, my husband, my best friend and always will be. He adored his family, his friends and his fans,” she continued. “This came as a shock to all of us. We, as a family, are asking that our privacy and time to mourn be respected.”
