Will Smith and Tom Holland, already rocking the pop genre in their respective roles as the Genie in Disney’s live action remake of Aladdin, and as the web-swinging Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far from Home, team up in the new Blue Sky Studios animated spy thriller Spies in Disguise.
Will Smith stars as legendary super-spy Lance Sterling, and Tom Holland co-stars as Walter Beckett, a gifted gadgeteer and junior equivalent to James Bond’s “Q” who works in the Innovations Lab. They team up in an uneasy alliance as they pursue Sterling’s ultimate opposite number, another superspy working to destabilize – and perhaps control – the entire world.

Using bio-dynamic concealment, Walter transforms Lance into a pigeon. Lance is not as thrilled with this transmogrification as Walter is, despite the fact pigeons can go anywhere, yet no one pays attention to them. Lance Sterling will complete his mission, no matter what species he is. Klondike Kat always gets his mouse, and Lance Sterling always gets his man.
The comedy espionage animated feature is from Blue Sky Studios, which was owned by Fox and has been acquired by Disney as part of their acquisition of Fox. As a result, Spies in Disguise is currently being overseen by Pixar executives.
Holland will also be returning to the MCU for a third Spider-Man movie (tentatively due to be released July 16, 2021). Karen Gillan (Amy Pond in Dr. Who, Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Martha in Jumanji) will be voicing Eyes.
Spies in Disguise opens 2019 on December 25, Christmas Day.
