Finally, some good news to report! Actor Michael Rooker (Yondu Udonta in Guardians of the Galaxy and Merle Dixon in The Walking Dead) has recovered from the disease that’s been literally plaguing the planet.
Covid-19 has hit Hollywood hard. Dwayne Johnson and his family have all tested positive for Covid. Tom Hanks and his wife caught Covid, but recovered. Idris Elba, Heimdall in the MCU, was diagnosed with Covid. Horror actress Hilary Heath died from it. The Batman and countless other films have been delayed.
Rooker called fighting the coronavirus “quite a battle.” He is delighted to be released from quarantine and to get back to what passes for normal in 2020.
Michael Rooker is moving from the MCU to the DCEU. He will be playing Savant in The Suicide Squad 2, which is tentatively scheduled for a 2021 release. The movie will feature fellow Covid survivor Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Margot Robbie as fan favorite Harley Quinn, and Firefly‘s Nathan Fillion as T. D. K. Savant is a Gotham City villain, a computer hacker who tried to go up against the DCEU’s premiere computer expert, Oracle (the superheroine formerly known as Batgirl).
Since Covid-19 was only discovered in 2019, scientists are only just now figuring out how the disease works, and the U.S. Center for Disease Control does not know yet whether or for how long COVID-19 survivors are immune to re-infection. In the meantime, we congratulate Michael Rooker on his recovery.
