Andor, a tense nail-biting spy thriller set in the Star Wars universe, and created by Tony Gilroy, is set to arrive on Disney+ in 2022. Diego Luna, reprising the role of rebel spy Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will be joined by a fantastic new cast that includes Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma.

Production began two weeks ago in London, Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy said during a presentation its annual Investor day.

A brief trailer was shown of early production, which you can watch above. Given that the show is still a ways away, the trailer doesn’t reveal anything about the plot. It does reveal that there will be 12 episodes in the season, though, so that’s something to look forward to. It looks like a very big production!

Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.” ?Diego Luna, on reprising his role

According to Wookieepedia:

“Cassian Jeron Andor, also known by the aliases Willix, Aach, Joreth Sward, and the title Fulcrum, was a human male soldier, pilot and Intelligence officer who served in the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars and then the Alliance to Restore the Republic during Operation Fracture and the Galactic Civil War. Andor joined a Rebel mission to steal the plans of the Death Star, a superweapon built by the Galactic Empire. Although the mission was a success, Andor perished along with the rest of Rogue One.”

Andor seems in the same timeline as the new feature, Rogue Squadron, also announced on Investor Day.
Disney staged the day as a mini D23 event to hype up stockholders, and it worked. Disney shares rose to an all time high the next day.

On November 30, it was reported that The Americans executive producer Stephen Schiff was tapped to serve as showrunner while Moana writer Jared Bush was revealed to have originated the project by writing a pilot script and a series bible (a reference describing a show’s characters, settings, and stories). Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy will also be writing for the series in addition to directing multiple episodes.

Andor is set to release on the Disney+ channel in December of 2022.
