Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and chief creative officer at Marvel, shared plans for the expansion and future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Friday. Among dozens of upcoming projects, Feige revealed three new series for Disney+, including the Samuel L. Jackson-starrer Secret Invasion, Ironheart with Dominique Thorne as a genius inventor, and Armor Wars – and the much delayed The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has a release date!

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, kicking off on Disney+ March 19, 2021, is a new series starring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier. The pair, who came together in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame, team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience. Directed by Kari Skogland (The Punisher) with Malcolm Spellman (Empire) serving as head writer, the six-episode series also stars Daniel Brühl, reprising his big-screen role as Baron Zemo, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker.

Spellman was hired to write the limited series in October 2018. Feige described The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as the “cinematic experience” of an MCU film. In mid-January 2020, filming was expected to take place in Arecibo, Puerto Rico for two weeks. However, because of earthquakes on the island, production was delayed. The in March, production in Prague was halted due to the pandemic. In early May, the Czech Republic allowed television and film productions to start up again. According to Mackie, the cast and crew were subjected to strict quarantine and social distancing measures. In September, production was completed in Atlanta.
