In-Person Artist Talk
Saturday, November 20, 2021, 5pm

Neon and kinetic sculptor Stuart Ziff will share an entertaining, behind-the-scenes glimpse of the creatures in the original 1984 Ghostbusters movie. As “Head of Ghost Shop,” he managed over 50 artists and technicians to create the film’s iconic monsters and creatures. The talented Ghostmakers created movie magic through ingenious practical effects: designing a unique look for each creature, sculpting them out of foamed plastic and latex rubber, and bringing them to life through puppeteering and stop motion animation.

The presentation will draw from Stuart Ziff’s vast archive of personal photographs and artifacts. He will explain the creature-creation process–from concept drawings to filming on set– for fan-favorite creatures including “Slimer”, “Terror Dogs”, and The “Stay Puft Marshmallow Man”. Stuart will also share fascinating and heartwarming stories about the challenges and triumphs during his experience on the Ghostbusters set.

Throughout his two-decade special effects career in Hollywood, Stuart has worked on notable films including, Ghostbusters, Star Wars: Episodes IV – VI, Total Recall, and Jurassic Park. While working in George Lucas’ visual effects studio, Industrial Light & Magic, Stuart received a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Tickets are $10 or free with museum admission.
